We didn't set out to build a community. We set out to find one. Both of us had built successful careers, checked the boxes the world told us to check, and ended up with lives that looked right on the outside and felt quietly hollow on the inside. So we each, in our own way, walked away. Sold the businesses. Left the ordinary behind. Drove toward something we couldn't name yet.
We found each other in 2018. We got married in Telluride in 2020. And somewhere in between the van trips, the healing work, and the long conversations about what it actually means to be alive, we realized we kept meeting the same kind of person. Thoughtful. Searching. A little too awake for the rooms they were in. People who felt the pull but didn't have a place to bring it.
Altarra is that place. It's the room we were always looking for. And now we're holding the door open for everyone else who's been looking too.
I've spent years in rooms where I had to shrink myself to fit in. Walking into Altarra felt like finally being allowed to take up the space I was always supposed to.
